Patápio Silva, the Breath of Art will be released in November by Publisher Insular. I lived intimately with this guy for three years - and we got along very well, although he died 65 years before I was born. "

PATÁPIO NO SHOW DE DÉCIO ROCHA

This initiative could only from our friend and journalist Alexandre Nadai! (Http://www.deciorochanadai.blogspot.com/) On the 1st of September was held the second Patápio display in the show's multi-instrumentalist Decio Theatre in Rock Odyssey . The day before, a lot of work: I was invited to design the scenery on the small stage and the work was great, flashlights, ropes, lines and toys ambientaram performance of Decius with Rita Ribeiro. Thanks! With Patápio, we will give that and other steps for dialogue between the Music, Visual Arts and Cinema!

CONVITE

PATÁPIO NO BLOG DO INSTITUTO CRAVO ALBIN

http://iccacultural.blogspot.com/2011/06/lancamento-do-filme-patapio-silva-de.html

In late March rediscovered the musicologist Ricardo Cravo Albin in Urea (http://institutocravoalbin.com.br/). I took a copy of the DVD of the short film Patápio Silva and he signed the authorization for voice and image. Encouraged by the documentary, Albin generously offered space at the Institute for a film's release. Weeks later, I returned with our friend and assistant director Teresa Fazolo to schedule a date and we draw together some strategies for the cultural event. In this action, the designer Giordano Bruno Celleghin the O Globo newspaper concocted a layout for the poster of the film.

O ROTEIRO

As we discussed in one of the first posts of this blog, in principle, the possibility of developing a screenplay with elements of the docudrama was not discarded. But during production, realized that the high cost of this choice could derail the project closure. Like everything in life, we realize that the duty cycle is exhausted, the mobilization of the team was descending. During some weeks in February 2011 decided to review the files with hard transcripts of interviews, images, photos, texts, research and music Patápio Silva. This veritable mosaic began to take form of documentary with the development of a new script as a starting point with books Leandro Saraiva (Manual Routing, SP: Conrad, 2004), Consuelo Lins (Filming the real, RJ: Zahar, 2008 ) and John Robinson (the black and Brazilian cinema, RJ: Pallas, 2001), the first publication being a gift from our brother Romulus Palma. In parallel, we started developing a story-board, a key to complete the work in the editing.

In the monograph of Grace Maria de Souza Nogueira, Patápio, classical musician or popular? (FUNARTE, 1981) the author cites teacher's memories of the National School of Music, Orlando Silva Patápio about Frederick: "I often went to the room of young single man, there, down the hall from an old 3. Floor Lavradio Street, I, John Capistrano Gomes do Amaral (now a civil engineer), the highly talented Adalberto de Carvalho and colleagues to hear him. "A new reading of this valuable historical reference directed the filming of the last short film for the Lapa. One morning heat recorded the old buildings from the turn of the nineteenth century to century as the old Apollo Theater, now occupied by the Municipal School Celestino da Silva and where my father studied in childhood. As at the time of Patápio, ultimately allowed the art reunion of great friends: Alexandre Nadai, Felicio Hungary and actor Philip Damiani.

RIO-ITAOCARA II

In the first half of 2010 I reread some notes for the screenplay for the documentary. Lacked a poetic element to associate the music of Patápio Silva and the presence of visual arts in his hometown. A greater emphasis on sculpture in honor of the piper could perhaps indicate a possible solution. The second stay at Itaocara happened last weekend of August. The team had new members: the journalist Julio Felicio de Azevedo Hungary and economist Ana Claudia Loureiro. Again the project was supported by the municipality through the efforts of the Secretary of Culture now Henrique Resende. Filming contemplated the submission of the School of Music Patápio Silva and several plans with sculpture by Henry Patápio shaped and located in the city's main square. Some residents gave testimony and late Saturday afternoon and I Felicio invited to present a communication in Kiúd Theatre. After the dynamics exhibit some excerpts from the raw material with Altamiro Carrilho and Skinny-MPB4.

In 2009 the project was almost paralyzed. The team's short film was disjointed and had few contacts with each other. All my concentration was focused on a doctorate at UFRJ. The task accomplished only refers to the selection of songs for the soundtrack of the short film. In this quest, three songs Patápio stood out: First Love, Flute Variations and Margaret. You can hear the original recordings of Patápio in consultation with the Moreira Salles Institute website Search in the archives section (http://ims.uol.com.br/) or remakes of FUNARTE (1983) with Altamiro Luizinho Carrilho and Eca (http://www.funarte.gov.br/brasilmemoriadasartes/?s=patapio+silva). In this period of musical research was a curious fact. On 17 November I attended the premiere of the documentary Citizen Boilesen Unibanco Artplex in Botafogo (photo). The film premiered at International Documentary Film Festival's All True was the result of fifteen years of research on the role of the Danish-born businessman in Brazil during the military dictatorship. In the discussion after the screening, director Chaim Litewski shared with the audience a very useful statement to that moment, there are certain documentaries whose preparation process may take a lifetime. It would be like if Patápio?

NOVOS OLHARES

From 2008 the issue of financing the project certainly was the biggest obstacle for producing the short film. Just trying to achieve reasonable results partners or counterparts to continue the recordings. And this was not enough for an independent documentary up to what the public might expect when it comes to Patápio. There is another factor that made the preparation of a complex script: new looks that are tangled on the life history of the eminent flutist. As you can see, the academic research Mauricio Oliveira (see link http://www.tede.ufsc.br/teses/PHST0294-D.pdf), Carmen Silvia Garcia (http://www.bibliotecadigital.ufmg. br/dspace/bitstream/1843/AAGS-7XQFWR/1/oriental.pdf) and Daniel Della Savia (http://www.bibliotecadigital.ufmg.br/dspace/bitstream/1843/AAGS-7XQFWR/1/oriental.pdf ) came to the pioneering work of Cicero Menezes (1953) and Mary of Graces Nogueira de Souza (1981). A balm for this problem was done by the show Altamiro Carrilho on May 13 at the playhouse attached to the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro. Along with Teresa and Elba, saw the beautiful tribute and discuss new possibilities for the film. The photo above is Leandro Aversa in the matter of O Globo newspaper of 10/05/08, "The final blow that gave color to the cry," John Pimentel.

ALTAMIRO CARRILHO

The interview with Altamiro Carrilho (photo) was a separate chapter in the recording process of the short film. After numerous contacts begin to realize the completion of the DVD "The Speech of the Flute" overburdening the agenda Carrilho (http://www.altamirocarrilho.com.br/). A new attempt fell apart when the musician canceled a presentation at Sala Baden Powell in Copacabana. Fortunately recovered from his health problem and, thanks to investigation of Teresa, we schedule on April 9, 2007 in a studio at the entrance to our old address in Humaitá. The Brazilian legend of the flute beamed when talking about his first musical reference and also recalled his participation in the tour's artistic Various Artists (1920-1990) in Japan at the end of the interview all tasted a little snack. Elba Altamiro Carrilho presented with a picture of Patápio Silva and they shared with me, Teresa Cristiano Fazolo and some photos.

Novas tentativas. Vamos rascunhar novas maneiras de interpretar a sagacidade de Patápio.

I presented these drawings in the course of Editorial Illustration of the graphic artist Louis Trimano held in October 2006 at Studio Marimbondo Botanic Garden. Trimano watched closely the image, was silent, whispered and said: "It is not good, better, more twisting figure!" Silence. Retries. Let's sketch out new ways of interpreting Wit Patápio.

RIO-ITAOCARA I

The trip to Itaocara, northwest state, occurred in February 2007. Along with Teresa and Alba Fazolo Ferreira wanted to record some images of hometown Patápio and talk to some residents. The city was founded in 1809 has about twenty thousand inhabitants and indigenous name means village of stone. Its economic base is dairy farming, fishing, liquor industry and every city has many sculptures scattered in the open. A portion of the work was created by visual artist Henrique Resende (photo), which also includes the commission of the local council culture. With this institutional support received for transportation, lodging and meals, the recordings took place without major unforeseen at the center and in rural areas of the city. According to information of city residents, the whereabouts of family members of Patápio is unknown. In addition, Sylvio Bairral, reminiscent of the first composition of the Musical Society Patápio Silva offered an important testimony to the short film. In addition, the studio of Henry, all team members attended a part of the making of the sculpture that would honor a few months after the most distinguished musicians of the city.

MAGRO DO MPB4 E EDUARDO WERMELINGER

Following contacts made on the site of the group MPB4 and the Association of Music Bands of the State of Rio de Janeiro (RJ-ASBAM), we have a schedule on the same date, respectively, recording with José Antonio and Eduardo Waghabi Wermelinger. On November 30, 2006, the MPB4 (http://www.mpb4.com.br/noticias/) rehearsing in a studio at Rua Rodrigo de Brito in Botafogo and coincidentally filmed the testimony of Waghabi in better technical conditions. Jose Antonio Waghabi, the Skinny-MPB4 also Itaocara is born, birthplace of virtuoso flautist and recalled his musical training at the Musical Society Patápio Silva. Days later, Slim borrowed for the short film is a photo where you can see a teenager in the formation of this band. In the late afternoon, I got home Edward Wermelinger (http://www.asbamrj.com.br/). He told us about the presence of bands in the formation of various musical artists of Brazilian popular music, citing the example of his own and Patápio Altamiro Carrilho, our next interviewee. All interviews were conducted short film with great care and elegance of Tereza Fazolo.

MILTON TEIXEIRA

The second came just days after recording the residence of the historian Milton Teixeira (pictured) in Botafogo. Very nice, Teixeira gave a long statement which described the rich cultural landscape of the city of Rio de Janeiro in XIX-XX entresséculos relating this watercolor of Jean Baptiste Debret the music Patápio Silva (Barber Shop, 1821).

RICARDO CRAVO ALBIN

In parallel to the work of documentary research and iconographic Ferreira de Alba, the first filming of the documentary was held at the Cravo Albin Cultural Institute on October 26, 2006 (http://institutocravoalbin.com.br/). For the musicologist Richard Albin (photo), the genealogy of the Brazilian flute, Patápio Silva is situated between two musical legends of equal size: Joaquim Calado (1848-1880) and Alfredo da Rocha Viana Filho, the Pixies (1897 - 1973). At the time, Albin mentioned the desire to receive a copy of the film edited for inclusion in the collection of the Institute.

PRIMEIRA SINOPSE

After a few meetings with the participation of journalist friend Teresa Fazolo, the researcher Alba Ferreira, Legal Adviser of the Elbe and the camera Cristiano Andrade Marins formulate a baseline overview for the start of early recordings. The proposal was to introduce Patápio Silva, the largest Brazilian flautist the late nineteenth century. Member of the bands in the state of Rio de Janeiro to the consecration in the aristocratic salons of the former federal capital, the film will portray the rise of confrontational artist at the National Institute of Music and his first recordings in the Edson House. In the first synopsis of the script, the premature death of the piper in Florianopolis become even more iconic presence of this mysterious piper. Also betting on a narration intercut with interviews of musicians and researchers to illustrate the images file and its main compositions. At first, the language of the docudrama was appropriate and climbed his friend Bruno Rodrigues Patápio to interpret in some scenes that would be addressed in a possible partnership with the theater company Actor's Breath (http://www.soprodoator.com/). This first argument received the affectionate analysis of Irene Black (pictured) and my colleagues in the Art Direction course conducted between 2006-2007 in the International Film Academy (http://www.aictv.com.br/). Professor Irene gave me a copy of two documentaries critical to this project: River of Memories Ignatius Parente (1987) and Cruz (2003) by Silvio Tendler. Furthermore, she warned us about the need for a main focus for this investment fit the reality of an independent production. Wise words!

At that moment, in mid-2006 we were doing the launch of the People that Rala (http://www.vimeo.com/21769558), our first short film with an entirely different topic: stress at work. In the previous film and our training in Fine Arts School of UFRJ, three courses allowed this new cinematic experience: Cultural Journalism with Arthur Dapieve (Lab Station Group, 2008), Video Production at the University Estacio de Sa (2007) and photo SENAC (2004).
